But What If It's Something Else?
Sometimes, the feeling of being tired, irritable and cranky don't go away. They can feel overwhelming and interfere with other parts of your life. You might feel like you're the only one experiencing those feelings, but you're not.
It is estimated that 10-20% of all new moms have trouble with postpartum depression. Some symptoms that seem to not subside include:
- Feeling depressed, sad or empty most of the day, nearly every day
- Feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, nervous and anxious, irritable or angry
- Decreased interest or pleasure in activities
- Guilt for not wanting to spend time with the baby
- Wanting to be alone
- Significant appetite change
- Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
- Tired, having little or no energy
- Thoughts of harming yourself OR harming the baby
- Panic attacks (racing heart, shortness of breath, nausea, chest discomfort, dizziness, numbness)
There are options, and you don't have to struggle by yourself.
